How I Use AI

I use AI in my work.

The real story comes from discovery, not from a tool.

Here's exactly where AI fits in.

Where AI fits into finding your story, and where it doesn't.

Where I use it

AI helps with production. I use it to draft documents from my own research and interviews, then format and structure the material. For social posts and website copy, it streamlines and brings consistency to what I've already written — never generates it from scratch. I also use it to research background information and sense-check my own insights and assumptions.

Where I don't

AI never does the actual work.

I meet people, in person and online. I visit each organisation and tour the site, to see how things are done and meet people where they work. I sit down with the key people in a team, run workshops, and follow up with individual interviews.

Every editorial judgement is mine: what the real issues are, which areas need attention, what matters most.

And there's a part of this no AI can do. I read between the lines. I pick up on something that hasn't surfaced yet, and I know to follow it. That instinct comes from twenty years in factual television, not from a tool.

What it means for you

Faster turnaround. A wider range of resources. More consistency across everything you receive. And more of my own time spent on what matters most: finding your real story, not formatting it.
