In a crowded, noisy, digital world, the organisations that cut through aren't always the biggest — they're the ones who know how to tell their story.

Nobody can see their own story clearly from the inside — it's not a failure of insight, it's just how proximity works.

I bring the same discipline I spent two decades building in factual television: going wide enough across an organisation — staff, leaders, volunteers, the people you serve — to find the story that's actually true, not the one any single person or department would give you.

Consultancy

Your organisation has a story worth telling.

If the real story is still scattered or buried...

that's what I do.

That takes real thought in every question I ask, so the answers will reveal a compelling story, rather than just carry information.

It's a different craft to branding or marketing, which usually start from what you already want to say. It comes before that work, not instead of it — the raw material a brand or marketing team then builds from.

If you already know exactly what you want to say and just need it designed and put in front of people, that's a branding job.

Over a long career in television I have worked with some of the world's most demanding broadcasters and commissioners — from the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV to Sky, National Geographic, Disney and PBS — and that experience of navigating complex organisations and high expectations translates directly into consultancy work.

But I am equally at home closer to ground level. I've spent years working with community groups in Somerset, most recently as a director of the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival — a unique blend of local community and international reach, championing the healing power of nature through arts, storytelling, poetry and photography.

I understand the challenges and ambitions of smaller organisations every bit as well as larger ones, and I bring the same quality of attention to both.

Consultancy is a focused, short-term intervention.

What's involved?

You get one person's consistent judgment throughout — not a hand off between a strategist, a copywriter and an account manager. A story this specific to your organisation shouldn't be diluted by committee.

I come in, look and listen carefully, and give you practical, actionable recommendations you can take forward:

  • A high-level review of how your organisation currently presents itself to users and stakeholders.

  • A team discovery and feedback session to clarify your values and goals.

  • One-to-one interviews with a wide range of staff to gather stories of interest and success.

  • A report with recommendations to sharpen your message and improve engagement with service users and funders, and proposals for creative ways to do this, including resource packs and simple-to-use tools.

What it's like working with me...

It's not just the actual written documents we received - I feel like I've been through an education.

I would absolutely recommend this to any organisation, regardless of size.

The communication was always clear, the team a delight, and somehow Dominic made an enormously complex production look effortless.

Having Dominic on a project is a guarantee of excellence.
