Coaching

Coaching works by unlocking your own potential through skilled listening and powerful questions — creating a space where you can think clearly, find your own answers, and move forward with confidence.

That skill isn't generic: it's the same craft I spent two decades sharpening in television — finding the story inside the noise, shaping it, and telling it well under real pressure — now turned toward your story instead of a subject's.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from it. You just need a willingness to explore.

What we might work on:

  • Understanding what's holding you back and what you really want

  • Exploring your priorities and what matters most to you

  • Recognising and making more of your strengths

  • Developing your performance and impact, at work and beyond

Are you stuck? This might help.

"I carry two intentions into every session: trust yourself, and stay curious"

Two ways people usually find their way here

You might already know me. If I've worked with your organisation on consultancy or facilitation, coaching is often the natural next step — not just for the person leading the organisation, but for anyone being given more responsibility, or backed to grow into a role that's new to them.

This is leadership coaching in the practical sense: preparing for leadership, not just occupying it. You don't need to be running the show to deserve this kind of space. Some of the most valuable coaching I do is with people right at the start of stepping up.

Or you might be arriving here without knowing me at all — often because you're a creative professional at a genuine turning point in your career. Wondering whether to make your living from your creativity, or whether to stay in the path you've always been on.

I've spent my working life in the creative industries, and I know both how much it costs to build a career there and what it feels like when the ground shifts — through redundancy, restructuring, or simply reaching a point where the old answer no longer fits.

Whichever door brought you here, the process is the same: skilled listening, powerful questions, and the space to find your own way forward.

What it's like working with me...

When we first spoke, my goals were all over the place — I had just taken redundancy after 30 years and was feeling overwhelmed and without purpose. At the end of our first session, I was astonished when Dominic told me what he'd heard in a few clear and simple sentences.

I have met my goals, put more order into my week, and my new LinkedIn profile has just gone live. I could not have been more wrong to have had any doubts. Dominic's approach has been a revelation.

I have been guided towards many things during my life. I confronted this opportunity as yet another 'slightly annoying bit of advice' — but I had two serious 'lightbulb' moments during our six sessions that have changed my actual life, at the age of 41. After I realised these things, I was told that these realisations were all me, and that I had done this myself. Dominic literally changed my life. This was done by very careful and gentle questioning. I'm not joking. I now think about things differently. Thank you to Dominic, from the bottom of my heart.

CHLOE STAINES

"I've learned to trust what stillness can bring to the surface"

I have spent many years mentoring students and emerging professionals in the television industry on behalf of the BBC, National Geographic, and the Universities of Bristol, the West of England and Salford.

That long track record of supportive, developmental work is the foundation my coaching practice is built on — the difference being that coaching doesn't require a shared professional background with me at all.

I have completed my training for ILM Level 5 in Effective Coaching and Mentoring and now am building up practice hours towards full accreditation.

I am an affiliate member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), and a member of the network of professional coaches used by the Diocese of Bristol. Sessions take place in person across Somerset, Bath and Bristol, or online wherever you are.

If you are curious about what coaching could do for you, the first step is simply a conversation, no fee, no obligation...
